A Spin on the Fashion Industry

Inspired by the Dove Campaign for Real Beauty, Aesthetica Arts delivered a community arts project that developed an alternative fashion magazine run by young women under 16.

The Dove Campaign for Real Beauty identified that many girls develop low self-esteem from hang-ups about their looks, with many consequently failing to reach their full potential later in life.

The project aimed to deconstruct negative body image found in some fashion magazines, and raise self-esteem, confidence, moral and improve overall body image by creating an alternative fashion magazine. The magazine was entirely planned, written, edited, designed and formulated by young women aged 14-15 years old.

In addition to the above aims, the project also provided the opportunity to engage with literary, I.T, design, creative thinking and teamwork skills.

The project was funded by the National Lottery's Awards for All.
