Welcome

The Virtual Memory Box is a creative non-fiction writing project for the elderly community. The project was designed to empower the elderly community by providing a virtual time capsule that can be accessed by other generations. At Aesthetica Arts, we feel that the elderly community benefited from this project by having the opportunity to participate and create and online resource that is a collection of memories, stories and photos. This will act as a resource for future generations.

The project was run over ten weeks working with residents at the Oakhaven Residential Home. Memories and “words of wisdom” were the theme of the sessions. Each session was carried out using memories as a catalyst for discussion and creative writing.

In this website you will find anecdotes and short stories, which reflect the participants lives and give a voice to their community. You will also find sound bites that bring life to the words.

We would like to thank the participants of The Virtual Memory Box Project, Arts Action York and the staff at Oakhaven Residential Home.  I hope that you enjoy reading and listening to the words and experiences of the participants, as much as we did.
